I am having problems with VAT. The balance on the first return is £0.00 although transactions are tagged on the bank statement.
Anyone have any suggestions?
The way QuickFile works it will include in a given VAT return any relevant items (payments in your case, as you’re on cash accounting) which are
- dated on or after your configured “vat start date”, if any, and
- dated on or before the end of the quarter you’re filing, and
- not already locked by a previous return
This behaviour is by design, as it ensures that anything that you enter late (i.e. dated during a period you’ve already submitted) is accounted for as soon as possible. However it also means that you must submit returns in chronological order.
Your screenshot suggests you’ve already submitted the June to August return, and due to the above behaviour the totals calculated for that will already have included all your March to May payments along with the June to August ones.

On the back of what @ian_roberts already said, can you view the breakdown of the June to August return to confirm that it included the March to May transactions?
