I am having problems in completing my VAT Return, I cannot put an adjustment in,
the system takes me out of the Return and back to Reports.
Hello @accountsdept
Just to confirm, when you click the little arrow at the end of the line (as shown below), itâs taking you back to the previous page?
Can I just double check, has everything on the page loaded correctly? Are there any missing images or is text in a different colour to normal for example?
Hello, yes that is right. It looks ok but I tried yesterday and still not working.
Thanks for confirming. Iâm not able to reproduce this issue. What web browser and operating system are you using (e.g. Firefox on Windows 10)?
Im on Windows 7 and Im not sure as we have an outside company who deal with our IT etc. It only appears to be on âTotal VAT Dueâ. Not had any issues previously and seems weird. At first thought was my keyboard but that is ok and works on other forms etc. What can I do as I need to get my VAT through?
Regarding your browser - you would normally have a âhelpâ menu, or something like Google Chrome you have 3 dots in the top right corner. From there, you should see an âAboutâ option which will tell you the name and version of your browser.
Iâve tested this on a few different browsers, albeit on Windows 10 rather than 7, but itâs working as expected. Does the adjustment box appear for you at all, or does it redirect you straight away?
If your VAT return is urgent, I would advise you to submit it directly with HMRC on this occasion, but remember to add it to your QuickFile account at a later date (so everything balances and your account is prepared for the next one).
Can I just confirm what box youâre trying to adjust? Is it box 5, âNET VAT to be paid to Customsâ? If so, this box isnât directly editable as itâs a sum of other values. What I suspect may be happening (depending on your web browser), is it youâre âclickingâ this box (I say âclickingâ because itâs not actually possible), and then pressing backspace, this will take you page a page - in your case, the list of VAT returns.
Adjusting the other boxes as required will automatically adjust box 5.
Of course, if itâs not box 5 youâre adjusting, then please let me know and we can investigate further.
I will try on my laptop at home tonight and see if that works. It is Box 3.
I can fill in Box 5 so its weird!
If itâs box 3, this one is also a calculation based on the other values. So if it is a browser such as Microsoft Edge, then backspace could very well be the cause of this as the box isnât directly editable.
From what I can see, I believe it is Edge or even Internet Explorer you are using. So to confirm - you canât directly edit these boxes, but if youâre clicking the boxes and then pressing backspace then this will take you back a page.
Editing the other boxes on the page will update these boxes for you.
I have not changed system in 4 years and not had any issues with it. I have tried filling in the other boxes ie Box 5 but it does not put figure in Box 3 and turns box 5 into a minus figure. I have tried everything.
When I click on Box 3 to put figure in as soon as I touch the backspace key it throws me back a page.
I do use internet explorer.
Boxes 3 and 5 arenât directly editable - you would need to edit the other boxes for these to update. The default behaviour on older browsers such as internet explorer when pressing backspace is to go back to the previous page.
Other browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox have removed this function due to the confusion is caused for some users.
I would highly recommend upgrading from Internet Explorer 11 however and would raise this with your IT company.
I will thank you. I have managed to do now on my laptop.
