Hello, went to send my latest January - March 2026 VAT return, it came up with an Error sending to HMRC and said to roll back the return. I did this and now i cant do anything with it, i have no receipt of HMRC receiving the return, and its just under filed on the quickfile system.
What do i do with it as i cant create a new return, i cant edit that and cant find where to resubmit it, there is nothing wrong with the return literally i just need to send it to HMRC..
Thanks
The key question is if you sign in to your HMRC online account, do they think the period has been filed or not?
If they think you haven’t submitted that period then you should be able to create a new VAT return in QuickFile and submit that.
If they think you have submitted that period then the only thing that broke was the final confirmation step telling QuickFile that the submission was successful - it was successful, just QuickFile doesn’t know it. In this case you should go into your QuickFile VAT settings and in the drop down for which HMRC account to use for VAT select the option for “no online filing”. Now you will be able to create a new return in QuickFile for the same quarter, make sure all the numbers match what you actually submitted to HMRC, then save the new return - this creates the necessary journals and locks the relevant invoices, but doesn’t attempt to send anything to HMRC. Finally go back to the settings page and turn online filing back on ready for the next quarter.
If this ever happens again don’t immediately go for the rollback button, first check with HMRC whether they actually received the return - if they did then there’s no need to actually roll back in QuickFile.
