Hello everyone, im trying to submit a older VAT return before MTD introduced can this be completed in Quickfile ?
Hello @sunshine123
It would depend on what is shown in your HMRC tax account.
If you go to reports > HMRC > View > Vat obligations and click previous year the cycle, does the period you are interested in show as open?
Yes it allows me to find the return in question status is Open when i click on prepare i get a rebld box appear on a new screen with an error " you have a saved vat return that overlaps this period 28th feb 2023 please rollback any overlapping vat returns before proceeding
the vat return i want to prepare is earlier than the date above
Hello @sunshine123
Returns have to be submitted/saved in chronological order.
You need to open your latest submitted/saved return and click rollback return. You would repeat this until you get to the open period you are interested in.
I would reccomend you check you vat settings at this point. The vat period start date needs to be set to the start of your first period.
You can then generate and submit the older return, repeat in order until you have done all open periods.
If any periods have already been submitted already, you would need to go into the vat settings, set the HMRC account to “no electronic filing” (as you cant submit twice under MTD vat). you would then generate and save the return as a place holder. repeat this until you are up to date.
Remember to go into the vat settings and change the HMRC account back to your company
Thanks that worked
Another quick question if i have to rollback for a vat submission but have already paid the return once the missing return is updated and i then resubmit the rollbacked return it just brings it back into line ? The revenue will have already acknowledged the payment made
Hello @sunshine123
once the missing return is updated and i then resubmit the rollbacked return it just brings it back into line ?
You can not re submit a return under MTD vat.
Any returns you recreate (which have been submitted are saved as placeholders as a record for the period.)
