Where can I find journals for sales and purchases?

When I run the Journals report I see all the payroll entries, and couple of other manual adjustments, but no entries for sales or purchase invoicing.
For each sales invoice, for instance, should there not be a journal entry to debit Accounts Receivable (which I assume is the Debtors control account), and credit General Sales?

Hi @MAMS005

Although technically they are journal entries, they’re not journals in themselves. These movements are made by the sales and purchase invoices entered into your account.

When viewing an invoice, you can select More Options >> Show nominal ledger entries, which will give you a breakdown of the entries for that particular invoice.

For a full list of entries, you can view the relevant nominal code on the Chart of Accounts (under Reports)

Hello @MAMS005

Here is a good 3rd party tool to visualise how the ledgers are affected with each transaction type

Ok, that makes sense I guess, but as Steve says below, I expected to be able to run a report to show all the double entries in chronological order for each transaction. I guess this can be achieved in custom reports, but I’ve njot been able to figure out how to build it.

I mean something like a General Ledger report, or all activity log, something like that.

This report will give you a full list of entries. You can drill down into each nominal code, or you can export the full ledger to a CSV file if you wish.

Ah, that’s the trick, thank you. I had assumed the Export Data button just gave you what’s on the screen, and didn’t realise the full dta was behind it.
