We are using the following settings and we get an authentication error.
The Hotmail account works on Thunderbird with these settings but not via QF.
smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
STARTTLS ticked
Thanks,
Ash

Hi @2plus1
Are you seeing any error messages when setting it up?
We have quite a few users using office365.com
for their SMTP connection, including some with Hotmail addresses.
Yes, it says that encryption was not used or the user was not authenticated.
The Hotmail account has IMAP/POP3/SMTP enabled and all settings have been tested in a mail client.
One thing I did wonder about is the test email for the authentication code - this had to go to a hotmail.com address however the main address we are setting up was a hotmail.co.uk address… might not make a difference but I thought I should point it out.
Have you tried port 25?
Yes, I tried port 25 - it didn’t work.
Port 587 on my local mail client worked just fine.
Hi @2plus1
If it’s saying about encryption, that relates to the STARTTLS
option. The authentication typically relates to the username/password.
The successfully connected accounts that are using hotmail.co.uk
emails for their SMTP, all seems to use STARTTLS
and port 587
, on either smtp.office365.com
or smtp-mail.outlook.com
.
